Covid-19 case response

Hi News,

We write with notice of our first confirmed case of Covid-19 of a member who played at our courts yesterday (Monday) morning.

We have followed the advice of the LTA and Public Health England with all players present at the time having been informed.

Members must follow the instructions of NHS Test and Trace who will identify if anyone is deemed a ‘close contact’ and therefore will need to isolate.  Graffham Tennis Club cannot determine ‘close-contact’ status of an individual.

Playing tennis outdoors is deemed a low-risk of transmission.  Together with our existing guidance to use the hand sanitiser provided and the understanding players are not shaking hands at the end of the match or sharing drinks, we do not deem it necessary to impose unreasonable restrictions on those attending the courts yesterday.  We have listened to concerns and will update our Covid-19 Risk Assessment by asking members who are known to have been in contact with someone who has tested positive in the past 10 days, to undertake a freely available Covid-19  lateral flow test on the day of any visit to the courts.  This will ensure we mitigate any risk of transmission and equally permit the freedoms of individuals as afforded in the latest easing of restrictions.

The revised club Covid-19 rules:

DO NOT attend the courts if you have:

  • Tested positive for Covid-19 within the last 10 days
  • Been identified as a close contact by NHS Test and Trace and instructed to isolate (this is the law in England until 16th Aug)
  • Have any symptoms of Covid-19 such as;
    • high temperature
    • a continuous cough
    • a loss of (or change of) taste or smell
    • feeling unwell

If you know (or have reason to believe) you have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 10 days, make use of freely available Covid-19 lateral flow tests before playing or attending the club.

Ensure you use the provided hand sanitiser on entering and leaving the courts.

Do not shake hands – touching racquets is the new norm.

Bring your own drinks to the courts (and do not share).

These rules have been carefully considered but if you have any concerns I am happy to discuss them with you.
